This Is Us writer breaks down Kevin’s big reveal

With the latest episode of It’s us obtain closer, it’s no surprise that storylines begin to reach resolution.

In the most recent episode, “The Night Before the Wedding,” we saw Justin Hartley’s character Kevin Pearson finally come to terms with his romantic journey.

At the wedding of his sister Kate and second husband Phillip, Kevin comes face-to-face with ex-wife Sophie once again, leaving fans wondering if a reunion would be on the cards after a romantic cliffhanger.

While the couple’s reconnection didn’t go without a few hiccups along the way, it’s safe to say that Justin and Sophie appear to be back together for good this time around, as editor Danielle Bauman has confirmed that Sophie “was always the endgame” for Kevin.

Talk to Weekly entertainmentBauman explained that while the show’s writers were considering other matches for Kevin, the majority of the team still saw him ending up with his ex-wife and childhood girlfriend.

“There was a short list. There were times when we were open to the idea that maybe Kevin was going to fall in love with someone else and that’s okay,” she said.

“Like everyone is when they’re looking for their true love. But even though, yes, there was a short list, deep down most of us were looking for Sophie. These two, despite all their flaws and all their ups and downs, are made for each other.”

Bauman also added that Hartley and Virgin River Star Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Sophie, was both on board with the characters’ decision to get back together.

“I know Justin was excited and so good. I know Alex was looking forward to getting back on the show,” she said.

It’s us airs its final season Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC, and can also be streamed on Hulu. Viewers in the UK can watch every Thursday via Amazon Prime Video or Disney+.
