Riding his bike down the road, Rudi Dharmalingam’s character, James Cutler, was hit by a car during the final minutes of the opening episode, before tragically passing away in hospital.
This happened after he and his wife Rose (played by Fiona Button) debated whether to adopt a child, as Rudi was keen on getting back to life instead of sitting around waiting for something to happen.

“I mean, it was so hard actually because Rudi is such a wonderful actor. I actually absolutely loved the chemistry between the two of them,” Morgan told the Daily Express of her decision to kill him.
“You know, I’ve had some really pretty big life changes over the last three or four years and they’ve been the sweetener of life, and they’ve really made me realize that life is short and not a repetition.”
