Senior Content Writer (London agency)

We’re looking for a natural storyteller with a flair for words – and a deep understanding of what makes content meaningful and relevant.

As a Senior Content Writer, you will help develop and deliver best-in-class content for Speak Media and its clients across all channels and media. You will support the Editor-in-Chief to ensure a flow of creative ideas and the successful delivery of multi-channel content projects and mentor junior team members.

The focus is on the written word, so editorial expertise is essential – but you’ll also need to contribute significantly to podcast and video projects.

Performance will be monitored against delivery of key responsibilities (see below), while overall success will be measured and incentivized against specific targets.

About the role

Working within Speak Media’s award-winning content team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Bring fresh and innovative ideas to develop our content offer
  • Regularly research and write new content for multiple channels
  • Promote and curate content on social media using relevant tools e.g. Hootsuite
  • Work with the Editor-in-Chief and/or Content Manager to design editorial plans to support marketing and communications objectives
  • Upload/publish content as needed using relevant tools e.g. WordPress, GatherContent and other CMS-like tools
  • Managing and updating editorial calendars using relevant tools, e.g. Airtable
  • Understand and apply SEO to ensure online content is fully optimized
  • Understand and apply analytics to measure, report and improve engagement, reach and other relevant metrics
  • Oversee and/or execute content editing, proofreading, fact checking as required

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • 2+ years of experience as a copywriter/copywriter in content marketing or related fields (e.g. journalism, PR, SEO, social media); the ideal candidate will also have experience delivering client content in a content/creative/digital agency
  • A natural curiosity and contagious passion for storytelling
  • Excellent organizational skills, a process-oriented approach to workflow management and a collaborative leadership style
  • The ambition to deliver goal-oriented content for clients, with measurable results
  • Ability to develop creative and original editorial ideas in response to corporate and B2B communications briefs – ideally with experience in the financial services and/or healthcare sectors
  • Proven track record of contributing world-class written, audio and video content that drives engagement and demand across digital channels
  • Experience developing ideas, creating plans/timelines, progressing content, and coordinating approval with stakeholders
  • An awareness of legal/regulatory/governance/data issues that affect the creation of content on behalf of clients (e.g. brand guidelines, GDPR)
  • A basic understanding of SEO and keyword research, content discovery, technology and platforms
  • The ability to analyze content performance using standard reporting platforms (GA, Adobe), report to clients and determine how to make changes to optimize performance
  • Experience with collaboration/project management platforms such as Basecamp and Airtable
