Ms. MarvelBisha’s head writer K. Ali laid out the plan for this massive reveal in the finale. During an interview with marvel.com, the producer explained that it wasn’t always in the cards for Kamala Khan to be the MCU’s first mutant. However, as the story progressed, the path to Ms. Marvel became clear. Of course, they had to handle the whole procedure with great care. A secret leak of this magnitude would have rocked social media for days. Instead, nearly every viewer at home raced to their computers to discuss the surreal news. Ms. Marvel be sure to emphasize the point for people watching at home. (Including the theme song for the X-Men animated series was a good idea to leave no doubt as to what they’re headed for.) Still, an absolutely monumental occasion for Ali and his entire cast and crew as they arrive to make MCU history on their Disney+ show.
“It wasn’t from the start [of the show]”, she said. “With Marvel, something is always a moving piece, and we try to solve this question of, ‘If one of the [Kamala’s family] put on the bracelet, would they have powers? The answer was always no, from the character’s point of view, no.”
“I feel so excited as a viewer of my show. The teenage Bisha fan in me is like, ‘I can’t believe this.'” the writer recalled. “And the fact that it’s Kamala – it’s her. It’s like her wildest dream has already come true during the series. [gaining powers], but then we just gave it a bit more of the dream. It’s incredible. I am delighted.”

An avid gamer and voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a superhero mega-fan with a wild imagination, especially when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, doesn’t it?
Ms. Marvel is now streaming on Disney+.
