Dr. Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang is the keynote speaker for Time of the Writer 2022

Dr. Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang is the keynote speaker for Time of the Writer taking place in Durban, South Africa from March 14-22, 2022. The theme of the festival is “Beyond Words: Memory, Imagination and Consciousness” .

Time of the Writer is a literary festival held in Durban, South Africa since 1996. Organized by the Center for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, it has hosted some of the biggest names in African and world literature .

The twenty-fifth edition inspired by the African Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Chef Albert Luthuli, has the theme “Beyond Words: Memory, Imagination and Consciousness”. It will honor his legacy and commemorate the 60th anniversary of his autobiography, let my people gowhich was published in 1962. It will critically reflect and engage with its participants to discuss whether Luthuli’s vision for a better South Africa has been served or betrayed.

The guests of the year were also revealed, including keynote speaker, writer, scholar, producer and broadcaster Dr. Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang and featured author Mandla Langa.

Dr. Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang is a Writing and Research Artist Fellow at the Future Africa Institute, University of Pretoria. For over 25 years, Mazibuko Msimang has worked as a writer, scholar, producer and broadcaster, creating value-based content for young and old audiences and readers across multiple platforms. She is part of the Puku Children’s Literature network where she is a consultant on special projects. His academic work also involves supervising Masters students at AFDA – The School for the Creative Economy.

Mazibuko Msimang has published six books for young readers. His books for young readers celebrate positive cultural and social values; and encourage self-love, confidence, courage and resilience.

“Dr Mazibuko-Msimang’s incredible writing skills for print and film cover a wide range of social issues. She is a formidable South African writer and public intellectual to be the worthy choice to deliver the keynote address at the 25th Annual Time of the Writer Festival; and to talk about the theme, Beyond Words, Memory, Imagination and Consciousness,” said Ismail Mahomed, Director of the Creative Arts Center.

The organizers have since explained to us that those on the site are from the 2021 edition and this year’s guests will be shared soon.
